Buddhist Marriage Homily

From time-to-time, I work with a bride or groom who considers him or herself to be  Buddhist.  More frequently, however, I come across individuals who identify as being “spiritual, but not religious.”  In these cases, Buddhist sentiments are often right on target.  An example is found below:
To say the words
But to accept that Love
And Compassion are built
Upon patience and perseverance
Is not easy.
Your marriage will be firm
And everlasting if you this.
