The summer of 2013, now drawing to a close, has been among the rainiest on record. With so many outdoor ceremonies large and small (as well as bridal party photo shoots), proper rain gear is an essential accessory for ht wedding day. Particularly for brides and grooms traveling from out-of-town, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce my favorite umbrella shop in the Big Apple, “Rain or Shine.” Tucked on 45th street between Madison Avenue and Vanderbilt, this tiny shop has an impressive array of outstanding umbrellas. These designs go well beyond large business, golf or hotel umbrellas that couples may grab as protection from the elements. Their collection includes fancy bride-worthy white canopies, along with others of a more artistic flair.
You find Rain or Shine at 45 East. 45th. Phone: 212-741-9650
Take a quick look at some of the styles they offer, along with my rain kissed couples of the last several years.
And consider the lyrics of that classic Broadway showtune, “Come Rain or Come Shine,” penned by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen, which inspired the store’s name.
I’m gonna’ love you, like nobody’s loved you
Come rain or come shine
High as a mountain, deep as a river
Come rain or come shine
I guess when you met me
It was just one of those things
But don’t you ever bet me
Cause’ I’m gonna’ be true if you let me
You’re gonna’ love me, like nobody’s loved me
Come rain or come shine
We’ll be happy together, unhappy together
Now won’t that be fine
The days may be cloudy or sunny
We’re in or out of the money
But I’m with you always
I’m with you rain or shine
This piece is written in remembrance of umbrella designer extraordinaire Drake Asklar.
