The winter months, when the wedding season is a little quiet, is a great time to reflect on the beautiful weddings from the previous year.  Tara and Sean’s wedding at the Midtown Loft was one such affair.

The American groom met his British bride in New York and says, “I immediately fell in love with her accent….I could have listened to her all evening, on our first date.”  The rest, of course, was history.

The Midtown Loft is a terrific, versatile space at 267 Fifth Avenue.  It has several spaces that host both the ceremony and reception, including a rooftop garden.  Tara and Sean had plans for an outdoor, garden wedding.  But, as life would have it, our English bride (used to many overcast and stormy days in the UK) had showers on her big day.  The venue quickly converted an atrium, adjacent to the garden to the ceremony venue.  Essentially, they brought the garden indoors.

The sweet ceremony included personal vows and the popular sand ceremony, representing the union of their two lives.  And in a “Kate Middleton moment,” the bride’s maid of honor was her very beautiful sister, dressed in pale pink.

The reception took place downstairs, in an open, airy and bright loft space.   I must admit that I was completely captivated by the décor and attention to detail that the bride had overseen.  Where to begin?

With pastels, primarily pink, lavender, and cream all about, the feel was “shabby chic” crossed with an elegant English garden.   Perfect floral arrangements were everywhere.   There were birdcages, and knick knacks all about (think a classic wedding you’d find on Style Me Pretty) with personalized gift items at each place setting.  Paying tribute to the bride’s English heritage, the post-wedding celebration started with afternoon tea!  Accompany the guests favorite tea was a wide selection of finger sandwiches and petit fours.   All of this was accompanied by a musical ensemble that was new for me—a quartet of cellos!

Following the very civilized European custom, there was an all-out celebration with dinner and a lot of dancing!
Their wedding photos are literally a feast for the eyes!
